I met Dick in Seattle, but I was born in Battle Creek so Dick and I had an instant bond. My husband Bill and I would agree that our lives were greatly enriched by Dick. We treasure time enjoying Italian dinners together, having him preside at our marriage and being such dear friends for many decades. Only a small cadre of the many people gathered in a lifetime inspire joy and hope and knowledge and wisdom. With immense thanks and gratitude, Father Basso was one of those people in my life. May the Spirit of peace and laughter cradle him into eternity.

We have been close friends since age 13. Dick was a bubbling font of joy, a witty commentator on human foibles, and a perceptive reader of the human heart. He had abundant learning and wisdom and with them gladly served God and his fellow human beings. With Dick, life was in full color and sound. He was such a blessing.......(Msgr.) Gus Ancona
