He was born January 8, 1962 to James, Sr. and Nancy (Hornback) Moorehead in Battle Creek, MI. He worked for the Kitty Hawk Restaurant and Rent-A-Car at the Kellogg airport from 1978-1980 and then, went to work for Production Plated Plastics of Richland, MI. It was there that he met the "Love of his Life," his wife, Sherri. Jim then went to work for Hi-Lex America Incorporated of Battle Creek; was one of their first employees, a Team Leader and retired in 2016 because of his illness after 33 years of faithful service. He was a twice survivor of esophageal cancer and was active in the Cancer Walks for many years.

Jim coached Little League T-Ball for the Springfield Recreation Department for many years and really enjoyed "his kids." He enjoyed camping and hunting and has many hunting "friends," who were more like "brothers." He was known to quite a few as the "Coffee Man." Jim used to perform in musicals in high school and his family loved to hear him sing. "Oh how he could sing." What a beautiful voice he had! Jim was a member of the First Baptist Church of Springfield, which is now known as Faith Baptist Church.

Jim was preceded in death by his son Phillip Paul on September 5, 2008, his brother Thomas in 1989, Kenneth James (still born) in 1957 and his father James Sr. in 2016.
