Condolence & Memory Journal

Terri, Pete and Heidi,
So very sad to hear of your Mom's passing. What a lovely lady Traudi was. I have so many fond memories of your parents from my early days in the US and Battle Creek. I am comforted in knowing she is with her Glenn again.
I hope this poem by Henry Van Dyke, brings you comfort in this very sad time.
Gone From My Sight
I am standing upon the seashore. A ship, at my side,
spreads her white sails to the moving breeze and starts
for the blue ocean. She is an object of beauty and strength.
I stand and watch her until, at length, she hangs like a speck
of white cloud just where the sea and sky come to mingle with each other.
Then, someone at my side says, "There, she is gone."
Gone where?
Gone from my sight. That is all. She is just as large in mast,
hull and spar as she was when she left my side.
And, she is just as able to bear her load of living freight to her destined port.
Her diminished size is in me -- not in her.
And, just at the moment when someone says, "There, she is gone,"
there are other eyes watching her coming, and other voices
ready to take up the glad shout, "Here she comes!"
And that is dying...

My heart felt condolences to all of you and your families,

Terri, we send to all the family our deep sympathy on the passing of your mother. She was a good neighbor. What a rich and full life she had, leaving you with many memories that should bring comfort in the months ahead. She is home with the Lord! God's peace and comfort to you.

Dear Terri,

So sorry for your loss. Your mom lived a very long life (as my mother is at the same age). I will be thinking of you tomorrow. These days are so hard, but we are in it together.

Much love,

Anne Hamilton

My deepest condolences to the family and friends of Traudi Werner. She and Glenn were very dear to me. I worked for what was then CAA, at the Franklin Neighborhood Center . I operated the food pantry there and the Emergency Meals Program (EMP) from 1991-2001. The first weekend of each month Lakeview Baptist Church volunteered. Glenn and Traudi were always there on Fridays and would fill in when other volunteers from their church couldn't make it. They knew the routine as well as I did and would always say to me "Mary Ann go sit down; do your paperwork. We'll call you if we need you". Very seldom did the need me! They set the tables, served the meals and never left until everything, and I mean everything was spotless! She share her story not only with me but with our consumers as well. Traudi had a true concern about the people we served. When lack of funding caused us to close she worried about what they would do for food since, at that time, we were the only place that served on Fridays. As God would have it, that was not the end of our friendship and service. Our paths crossed again through the Neighborhood Food Pantries. My church, Mt Zion AME, was also a pantry site and the five sites would meet monthly to brainstorm on how we could better serve our community. Glenn and Traudi were angels here on earth and now both have gained their wings. Well done thy good and faithful servants. You will forever hold a special place in my heart. Mary Ann Riley
