Condolence & Memory Journal

My sincerest sympathy to Doug's family. I called Doug on a regular basis through
the Telephone Reassurance Committee at Chapel Hill United Methodist Church. He was always so pleasant to visit with and very interesting. I will miss our conversations.v

I met Doug years ago on Ebay because I was selling railroad memorabilia. We have kept in touch by email and Christmas cards. He was a lovely, interesting man and I am sorry I never got to meet him in person.
I was worried when he did not answer my last emails and I knew he had experienced problems.
I am so sad for your loss and I will miss him even though we did not meet.

I came to know Dan through Telephone Reassurance, when on my designated day I would call him. He was always delightful to talk with and often full of all kinds of information. He was a very learned man which made the conversations very interesting. I will miss our weekly chats.

I was saddened to learn about the passing of a dear friend I've known for many years' since we went to Battle Creek Central High School. Doug was in the band and I was in the chorus line. We kept in touch through the years' up until I was remarried a few years' ago. Have fond memories when a few of us gals used to get together, and Doug would come over on the 4th of July and he always loved to grill for us. He loved his sister, son, and was very fond of his beautiful grandchildren and of course his cat Phoebe, and his grand dog - Stella. At Christmas time Doug would always make something to give to many of his friends and we especially loved his Stollen loaves and homemade jams. I still have a few of his recipes he agreed to pass along; even have a picture of two huge pans he grilled turkey legs for his church one time, and his jams. He was a caring person and will be sadly missed. I know one day we will meet up again in a better place. Prayers and blessings to the family.

Shari and I extend our deepest sympathy to Doug's family at this difficult time. Doug was a good friend from our early years at Battle Creek Central High School and as we re-connected and shared in ministry and study together at Chapel Hill United Methodist Church. I loved Doug's enthusiasm as we studied Disciple Bible Study and as he served with the first praise band and as a worship leader at the Church. I will dearly miss this faithful friend, but look forward to being with him in heaven someday.

Doug and I had so many conversations over the years as part of the Chapel Hill United Methodist Church congregation. For many years he and his mother attended worship services together and he cared for her well in her last years. Doug's interest and knowledge on so many subjects made it a delight to spend time with him. He lent his commanding voice to the church as a liturgist and a narrator for special services. As his mobility and health became challenging, our Telephone Reassurance Team at Chapel Hill enjoyed daily conversations as they checked on his well-being. My husband, Pastor Dave Morton, and I extend our sincere condolences to Doug's family. He will be missed.
