Condolence & Memory Journal

I am so sorry to hear of Dan's passing. He and I worked together as underwriters at both Federal Home and Farm Bureau. We carpooled to Lansing, and I was thankful for his company in the car. There was lots of laughing and story-telling. Over the years, when I would run into Dan, we would talk, catch up, and I always walked away with a smile. He will be missed. My deepest sympathy to you Sandy.

Sandy, I so sorry to read of Dan's passing. I had no idea he was ill. I'm sorry I can't be there since I'm wintering in Florida. I always enjoyed talking to Dan when I saw him. Will be praying for you during this difficult time.
Sending sympathy.

I'm so sorry to hear of Dan's passing. He was a kind and upbeat guy, and I got to know him a little bit when the Jaycees would help out with the "Calling Santa" program on WBCK and WBXX. Dan was often the "head elf", and he and his fellow Jaycee "elves" would screen phone calls for Santa and make sure that goodies were distributed around the studio. He'll be missed in our community.

I met Dan when he substitute taught at WK Kellogg Junior High and as a fellow parishioner at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Dan was a warm and kind person both in his teaching and as a truly Christian man of faith. He was very intelligent and knew how to relate to the junior high students in a way that was most unusual for substitute teachers. He learned the kids by name, related to them individually, and cared for them deeply. Dan and I laughed together and felt a comradeship that felt authentic and real. He was a spiritual person and participated in the church as a lector which was perfect for his intelligence and communication skills. He was gregarious and always greeted Jonny and me with a smile and a hearty laugh when we would see him at church. Dan will be greatly missed. I will be singing in the funeral choir and will say my goodbyes at that time.

I had Mr. Determann as a substitute teacher while attending Watttles Park Elementary many years ago, and I really enjoyed having him as a teacher. My regular teacher Mr. Wagner was out for an extended period, and Mr. Determann took over while he was out. I remember I was very much into baseball at the time (6th grade), and he would quiz me about baseball facts. He was a very knowledgeable person. After all of these years I never forgot about him. While I only knew him briefly, he left a lasting impression
on me. Please accept my most sincere condolences.
