Tribute & Message From The Family

Colonel N. Winnick, age 92, died Friday, February 14, 2020. Born July 7, 1927, Colonel was the 5th child and only boy born to parents Nikolai and Stephania Winnick who immigrated from the Ukraine to the United States in 1913.

A graduate of Muskegon Heights High School, Colonel served his country in the U.S. Navy in the South Pacific during World War II and the Korean War conflict. He concurrently continued his studies and later earned his Doctorate of Dentistry from the University of Detroit Dental School.

Colonel, his wife Patricia, and son Todd resided in Norton Shores where he practiced dentistry for 49 years. Among his interests were golf, music, barber shop quartet, gardening and traveling with Patricia.

In public, Colonel commanded a podium as effectively as realizing the importance of loyal support and quiet understanding for his family. He presided as master of ceremonies for many public functions including the Muskegon Country Club's 100th Anniversary. Colonel was also a longtime member of the Muskegon Rotary Club and the Elks. It was easy to tell where Colonel was in a room – all one would have to do was follow the distinctive voice and the laughter that invariably ensued.

Colonel did much for charity and his community and donated "Patty's Garden" in loving memory of his wife to the Muskegon Hospice House. After retirement, he would spend many of his days helping out at "The Little Red House" in Grand Haven, bringing a smile to those who were less fortunate or frail.

Always quick of wit and never at a loss for a joke or kind word, Colonel will be missed by all who had the pleasure of his company.

Colonel is survived by his son, Todd Christopher Winnick and very close family friend, Pegge Huntley.

As per Colonel's wishes, cremation has taken place and no services are planned. Arrangements by the Farley Estes Dowdle Funeral Home & Cremation Care. Personal messages for the family may be placed at www.farleyestesdowdle.com.
