Tribute & Message From The Family

Jimmie Lee Woods of Anchorage, Alaska passed away unexpectedly on October 1, 2020. He was 69 years old.

At a very young age, Jimmie, his mother, and siblings moved to Hamilton, Ohio. After the death of his mother, at the age of 15, Jimmie moved to Muskegon, Michigan to be with his aunts and uncles, who all stepped in to care for him and his brother like their own children. There, he attended Muskegon High School, Class of 1969. In Muskegon, he met Hettie Churchwell, and married in 1977. Together, they had two daughters, LaTonya and Anitra. Upon becoming a father, he felt it was important to give his new young family a better life, and he joined the army in 1980.

While in the army, Jimmie was stationed at Fort Meade, Maryland, Fort Hood, Texas, and Fort Wainwright, Alaska. After 12 years in the army, he was honorably discharged, and he made Alaska his home. After his divorce, Jimmie welcomed his first and only son, Damarcus and moved from Fairbanks, Alaska to Anchorage, Alaska. There, he continued his military service in the Air Force National Guard, and as a civilian in the Air Force. He faithfully served his country for 30 years, retiring as a federal civilian servant in 2019. In his new home of Anchorage, he met and fell in love with Beverly Dillard. The two built a life together, lasting 12 years, and were together until his passing.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Estelle, aunts Janie, Charlene, Silvesta, and uncle Charles.

He leaves to cherish his memories, his fiance, Beverly Dillard of Anchorage, AK; children, LaTonya Woods of Detroit, MI, Anitra Woods of Charleston, SC, Damarcus Davis of Fairbanks, AK; grandchildren, Adriana Acosta, and Amaria Chavis; siblings, Eloise Brown of Kentwood, MI, Barbara (Derrick) White of Kentwood, MI, and Samuel (Brenda) Brown; and aunts Rose, Madeline, and Bertha; uncle Wallace (Major); and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, extended family, and friends.
