Condolence & Memory Journal

Just saw this and wanted to write a note even though it is late .Tom was my tennis coach at KCC and a very nice man. He told the corniest jokes but was a pleasure to be around. I was lucky enough to know his family and would like to say how sorry I am for you. I was lucky as a young man to be around gentlemen like Tom as I played for and competed with him. R.I.P. Mr. Mackie

Tom was a great colleague at KCC and a fun fellow to be around even though he often told autrocious puns. The more we groaned, the more he told. He was cheerful every day that we worked together and used to say "Every day's an A." Rest in peace Tom.

Mr. Mackie taught me tennis when I was in junior high and he was my instructor at KCC in early childhood development.
He was a kind person and I have thought of him over the years.

Mr. Mackie was a great teacher, coach and neighbor whom I admired and respected for his patience, coaching and friendship even when I resisted his guidance due to my teenage ignorance. I always felt welcome by his family and enjoyed his humor even after he gave me a B- in his psych class. I thought of the Mackie family often through the years and I will always keep those memories in a cherished place in my heart.

My favorite joke of his. I got home and my wife was at the door and I said honey I'm going to take you someplace you've never been, so I took her into the kitchen.

We were so blessed to have Tom with us for 93 years! We started to lose him a year ago with dementia. He was a wonderful loving father, stressing to me the importance of being kind to everyone. He taught me how to ski, play tennis, have fun & be GOOFY. He always had a smile on his face, a hop in his walk & and a tune he whistled. I thank my family for working together so well as we took turns caring for him. Thank you for all the medical, memory care and hospice staff who cared for him. I love you, Dad!

Where do I start? Snauewert racquets, offset racquet head, Sunday doubles, Thursday doubles, Labor Day Doubles, rubber duck, continental grip on every shot (ahead of his time - subsequently used by McEnroe), green Yonex, staying in shape, etc.

Took me to the woodshed more than once on the doubles court.

Tom is a legend in BC tennis and was also a lot of fun to be around.

Condolences to the Mackie family.
