Stained Glass Emblem

Alan "Al" Stephen Phillips of Galesburg, MI

Al, aged 53, died tragically Sunday evening, April 23, 2017 following an auto accident last Wednesday and with his loving family, close friends at his side.

Al, the son of David and Rita (Owen) Phillips, was born in Bebington, United Kingdom on April 17, 1964 and moved to this area in 2011. He was the Owner of Projetus, specializing in Contemporary Design and was a Michigan Licensed Builder and Contractor. Al achieved the rank of "Worshipful Master" of the Freemasons Lodge of Charity, UK. He enjoyed life and in particular motor biking, deer stalking, horse riding, sailing, golf, hiking and downhill skiing (the latter proudly self-taught!). He was indeed a Master Chef and Mixologist, entertaining all who knew him - home was always "party central." He had traveled to all 50 States in the US by the time he was 50 (achieving his "50 by 50" goal).

Al was united in marriage to Sheila P. Delargy in Cushendall, Northern Ireland on August 30, 2010. Surviving is his wife, Sheila; his daughter, Hannah J. Phillips of Middlewich, UK; his son, Daniel S. (Laura) Phillips of Warrington, UK; a precious granddaughter, Isla R. Phillips; his mother, Rita Smith of Colwyn Bay, Wales, UK; two sisters, Sue (Steve) Barham of Adelaide, Australia and Annie Roper of Colwyn Bay Wales, UK and his brother, Rob (Jan) Smith of Chester, UK. Al was preceded in death by his dad; his father who raised him, Jack Smith and two sisters, Helen Smith and Caroline Tansley.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, April 29th at 10:30 a.m. at St. Ann Catholic Church, 12648 East D Avenue, Augusta, MI 49012, with Father John D. Fleckenstein, Celebrant. Family and friends will continue Al's life celebration with a time of fellowship and a luncheon immediately following the Mass in the Church Social Hall. Al's family will greet friends on Friday, April 28th from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Farley Estes Dowdle Funeral Home & Cremation Care, Richland Chapel, 9170 east D Avenue (M-89). In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Al's honor may be directed to the Association of Frontotemporal Degeneration (AFTD), Radnor Station Building, Suite 320, 290 King of Prussia Road, Radnor, PA 19087. Al had already planned a pool party for this charity in memory of Laura Gordon, a dear friend and neighbor (RIP). It only seems fitting that we honor this wish.
