Amilyn (Amy) Katha White, 70, of Battle Creek, unexpectedly went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on July 1, 2017.

Amy was born June 25, 1947 to George and Evelyn (Krasny) Stuteville in Ann Arbor, Michigan. She graduated from Dearborn Edsel Ford High School in 1965, received her B.A. Degree in Elementary Education from Michigan State University in 1969 and an M.A. in Developmental Reading from Eastern Michigan University in 1972. She taught primarily first grade in Fowlerville, Genesee, and Saline.

On September 30, 1972, she married Kenneth R. Lofquist, who died of ALS in May of 1983. On February 20, 1988, she married Larry J. White. She began work as a tutor at the Dyslexia Resource Center in Howell, Michigan in late 1987, eventually becoming a tester, teacher trainer, and executive director. She left in 2002 to work as an independent contractor doing teacher training for Masonic Dyslexic Reading Centers, but was forced into retirement in 2003 due to health problems. She lived with Type 1 diabetes for 63 years, battling many infirmities but considering herself very blessed with a joyful life. Her grandchildren were her pride and joy.

Amy loved to read, do creative writing, and was an active member of Westlake Presbyterian Church, where she was currently serving as Moderator of the Deacons, Moderator of the Naomi-Ruth Circle, a member of the Presbyterian Women Board, and loved to reach out to people.

Amy was preceded in death by her parents, husband Ken Lofquist, brothers Rolf Stuteville and Staff Stuteville, and sister Larka Gourd. She is survived by her loving husband Larry, sister Shelda J. Smith of Ypsilanti, mother-in-law Dorene White of Stockbridge, daughters Lara (Dan) Jacobs of Galesburg, Alyssa (Eric) Lofquist-Ward of Colorado Springs, CO, Betsey (Jim) Tallon of Chicago, IL, sons Noah (Evelyn) Lofquist of St. Paul, TX, and Brian (Michelle) White of Garden City, grandchildren Keaton Jacobs, Kennan Jacobs, Evelyn (Evie) Jacobs, Ethan Lofquist, Henry Tallon, Isaac Tallon, Chloe Beasley, Nick Beasley, and Jake Beasley, and numerous nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life memorial service will be held at Westlake Presbyterian Church Friday, July 14 at 11:00 a.m., with Pastor Roger D. Grandia officiating. A luncheon will follow at the church. Visitation at Farley Estes Dowdle Funeral Home in Battle Creek on Thursday, July 13, 2017 from 4:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are encouraged to the Family Enrichment Center, 415 S. 28th Street, Battle Creek, MI 49015.
