Amy June Outman, age 97 of Battle Creek passed away on Friday, April 15, 2022. She was born in Dowling, Michigan on June 21, 1924, the daughter of John and Mae (Rice) Hammond and graduated from Hastings High School. In 1983, Amy retired from the Kellogg Company after nearly 30 years of service.
Amy married Richard Lee "Rich" Outman at the Convis United Methodist Church in Battle Creek on May 16, 1970; he survives. She is also survived by her granddaughter, Shannon (Jason) Rose; her great-grandchildren. Christopher Rose and Caitlin Rose; her sister, Gerry Alderson; a brother, Don (Carolyn) Hammond; a sister-in-law, Mariann Hammond; special cousins, Lloyd & Susan Terry; and several nieces & nephews. Amy was sadly preceded in death by her daughter & son-in-law, Carlene & Randy Myers; her parents; and two brothers, Gerald & Dale Hammond.
Amy was a member of the Kellogg 25-Year Club. She was always very active, enjoyed golfing & bowling, and played on several different area leagues over the years. Amy was a wonderful & talented seamstress, and also enjoyed reading, playing the organ, cooking, and baking. She was always very social, outgoing & friendly, was truly loved & will be missed by so many. Family meant so much to Amy, and she truly loved traveling and spending time with them.
The family will receive friends 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, April 20th at Farley Estes Dowdle Funeral Home & Cremation Care, Battle Creek. Funeral services to celebrate Amy's life will be held 2:00 p.m., Thursday, April 21st in the chapel at Floral Lawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Battle Creek. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Alzheimer's Association and/or the Humane Society of South Central Michigan.
