Music Emblem

Andrew "Drew" Pattullo, Jr., 70, of Battle Creek, died June 11, 2016 at the Battle Creek VA Medical Center. Drew was born to Andrew and Jean (Fralick) Pattullo on November 25, 1945 in Battle Creek.

During his youth, he attended school in the Battle Creek School system and graduated in 1963 as a Paean. While in high school he played the trumpet in the school band and had planned to attend Band Camp with Stan Kenton (he loved jazz), but he was involved in a horrific auto accident that nearly ended his life. He stayed in tune with music of different venues throughout his life. Drew also had a great love of food, and attended the Restaurant and Hotel Management Program at M.S.U. for three years. He was then drafted into the Army and served at Ft. Knox, Kentucky from 1967 to 1969. At Ft. Knox he was stationed first at the Adjutant General's Office and working in Officer Records. Later he was transferred to the Hospital Company where he attended in coming casualty soldiers returning from Vietnam.

After his time in the service he decided to travel and found himself in San Francisco, where both of his favorite things, music and food, abounded. Shortly after his arrival he began working for Bill Graham Productions. While working with the company he met and became friends with many famous musicians including, Jerry Garcia and the Grateful Dead, Carlos Santana and his band members, Van Morrison, The Jefferson Airplane, the Allman Brothers and also Neil Young (they both loved playing with Neil's Lionel Trains). His love of good food and music never diminished.

Drew was preceded in death by both his parents, Andrew and Jean Pattullo, for whom he was caregiver until their deaths. He took pride in being a good steward to their well-being and comfort.

He leaves his family with heavy hearts, including his wife, Susan, and his son, Andrew Pattullo, V of Grand Rapids. He is also survived by his only brother, Douglas Pattullo of West Branch; his two step-children, Letha Meyers and Richard Meyers, both of Kalamazoo, and their children; cousins in the West including, John Pattullo II of California; Karen Race of Colorado and Nancy Fralick of Arizona.

Drew had many friends from all over the country that will mourn his loss. Most recently, during the last months of his life, he became a patient at the Battle Creek Veterans Facility at Fort Custer. The staff there took excellent care of him physically and spiritually. Our heartfelt thanks to the staff and residents of Unit 83-1, those who came to know, care for and befriend him, your support has been immeasurable.

A memorial service to celebrate Drew's life will be 12:00 p.m., Saturday, June 25, 2016 at the Farley Estes Dowdle Funeral Home & Cremation Care, Augusta Chapel. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service, starting at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Augusta Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the American Liver Foundation or to a charity of one's choice. Personal messages for the family may be placed at www.farleyestesdowdle.com.
