Barbara Jean (Van Ootegham) Evans of Springfield, MI

Barbara, age 89, passed Thursday morning, March 26, 2020 at Bronson Battle Creek Hospital.

Barb, born January 2, 1931 in Grosse Pointe, MI, the daughter of Helen R. (White-McGlocklin-Van Ootegham) Proctor and Alton McGlocklin; grew up in Joppa (Leroy Township), MI and was a 1948 graduate of Athens High School. Barb worked as a Customer Service Representative at Federal Life and Casualty in Kalamazoo, MI until her retirement in 1995. Barb was a life-long and extremely active member of Trinity United Methodist Church and Chapel Hill United Methodist Church, Battle Creek. Her activities included the Twenty-Niners Missions Organization cooking for the group on mission trips; Blossom Bunch (10 years) as a volunteer caring for flower beds at the church; Piece-Makers Quilting Group (20+ years) making children's quilts for the holidays; Monday Evening Bible Study (27 years) and helped lead in-home Bible Study and the Stevens Ministry for many years.

Barb was united in marriage to Norman G. Evans in Battle Creek on June 2, 1951. He sadly preceded her in death on July 17, 1971. Barb was also preceded in death by her parents and her step-father, Ray Van Ootegham. Surviving are her daughters, Sandra J. (Keith) Konkright of Scotts, MI and Susan A. (Daniel) Walker of Fletcher, NC; three sons, Charles G. Evans of Battle Creek, Jeffrey L. (Sheryl) Evans of Climax, MI and Gregory T. Evans of Battle Creek; 13 precious grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren and her two special companions, Zeke, a black Lab and her cat, Kiki.

Due to the Health Crisis restrictions, the funeral service for Barb was held in the Farley Estes Dowdle Funeral Home & Cremation Care, Battle Creek and the Rev. Chad M. Parmalee, Pastor of the Chapel Hill UMC, officiated. Interment followed in Leroy Congregational Cemetery, East Leroy, MI. A celebration of Barb's life will be held later when restrictions have been lifted. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Barb's honor may be directed to the Chapel Hill United Methodist Church, 157 Chapel Hill Drive, Battle Creek, MI 49015.
