Betty L. Martens, 81, of Battle Creek, died Saturday, December 29, 2018 at Bickford Cottage. She was born September 23, 1937 the daughter of Earl and Dorothy (Garber) Cable in Michigan City, Indiana. She attended Lakeview High School.

Betty Cable was united in marriage to Ronald "Ron" Martens on June 30, 1956 in Battle Creek. Betty worked at Weston's Cookie Factory until 1961 and Dunham's Sporting Goods. Betty was a mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, housewife, farmer, and she loved hunting and fishing.

She is survived by her son, Jeff (Wendy) Martens, and daughter, Kim Martens; five grandchildren, Jeremy (Debi) Martens, Melanie (Jeff) Lake, Ronnie (Amber) Martens, Quintina Mendez, Caleb Mendez; four great-grandchildren, Jaelynne Vaxter, Kyla Lake, Alison Lake, Ella Mae Hall; and came from a larger family of seven sisters and four brothers.

Betty was preceded in death by her husband Ron in 2013, and her parents. She loved spending time with her family, she crocheted, collected cookie jars, loved cooking and canning, and she donated generously to the Dakota Indians, Breast Cancer Research and St. Jude's Children's Hospital.

A funeral to celebrate Betty's life will be held at 1:00 pm Saturday, January 5, 2019 at the Farley Estes Dowdle Funeral Home & Cremation Care, 105 Capital Ave. N.E., Battle Creek, MI 49017. The family will receive friends One hour prior to the funeral from 12:00 noon till 1:00 pm; with Pastor Jeremy Martens officiating. Interment will follow at Floral Lawn Memorial Gardens. Friends who wish may make memorial contribution to Alzheimer's Association.
