Heart Emblem

Carmen (Juretschke) Bartholomew, 62, of Battle Creek, Michigan passed away unexpectedly on March 25, 2018.

Carmen was born March 6, 1956 to the late Fritz and Gertrude (Gollen) Juretschke in Hof, Germany and was one of 10 children. Carmen graduated High School in Hof in 1974 and bravely moved to the United States the following year to establish her roots.

Carmen married Scott Bartholomew of Battle Creek on July 29, 1995 and spent much of her life as a loving homemaker. Carmen was a devoted "Mi Ma" and "Oma" to her seven grandchildren and her silly humor and playfulness will be deeply missed. Carmen was an active member of Friends Church in Wattles Park and was strong in her Christian faith. She enjoyed time spent with friends playing cards, Yahtzee and billiards and loved dancing at the Maple Leaf Grange Hall on weekends. She was a member of the Red Hat Society (Foxy Red Fedoras).

Carmen never missed an opportunity to celebrate her friends and family on birthdays and holidays by selecting the most perfect cards and thoughtful gifts. You could always find a stash of sour candy in her purse and popsicles in her freezer. Carmen never had a harsh word, unless you count "jiminy cricket", her coined phrase. She had many hobbies including crafting, baking, watching scary movies, shopping garage sales and playing bingo. Carmen never met a stranger and was generous with her time and energy when it meant helping someone in need.

Carmen in survived by her husband Scott Bartholomew; daughter Karin (Tim) Wallace of Battle Creek, MI; son James (Kristen) Christie of Chapin, SC; stepdaughter, Samantha Schacher of Battle Creek, MI; grandchildren, Haley Christoff, Nevaeh Edwards, T.J. Wallace, Jr., Caitlin Wallace and Colton Schacher of Battle Creek, MI and Nora and Roe Christie of Chapin, SC; in-laws Paul and Jerri Stafford of Urbandale, MI. She also leaves behind her beloved dogs, Ginger and Angel, and a host of long-time friends and extended family throughout Michigan and Germany.

Carmen's family will greet friends on Friday, March 30th from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Farley Estes Dowdle Funeral Home & Cremation Care, Battle Creek. The funeral service to celebrate Carmen's life will begin at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. John Grafton officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Carmen's honor may be directed toward the Harper Creek Optimist Club.
