Carol Rose Howes of Richland, MI

Carol, age 79, died on Thursday morning, December 10, 2020 at Bronson Methodist Hospital, Kalamazoo, MI.

Carol, the daughter of Thomas Walter and Lila Marian (Kellogg) Howes, was born in Kalamazoo, MI on March 1, 1941 and was a 1959 graduate of WK Kellogg High School. Carol earned Master's degrees from Western Michigan University in History and Education. Carol also volunteered in the Peace Corps in Nigeria from 1968-1970.

Carol retired from the Michigan Department of Corrections in 2012 after serving as a Warden for 27 years and from Kellogg Community College where she was an adjunct professor teaching in the Criminal Justice Program for 24 years.

Carol is survived by her brother, Glenn W. (Cindy) Howes of Richland; a niece, Jennifer (Kirk) Rodriguez; a nephew, Glenn W. (Alicia) Howes and great nephews Matthew and Nathan Rodriguez and Elliott and Aidan Howes. Carol was preceded in death by her parents and niece, Conni Carol Howes.

A private graveside service will take place at the North Athens Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Carol's honor may be directed to the American Cancer Society or the Humane Society of South Central Michigan. The Farley Estes Dowdle Funeral Home & Cremation Care, Richland Chapel is assisting Carol's family.
