Clinton Frederick "Clint" Smith, age 82, of Battle Creek passed away peacefully on Thursday morning, August 3, 2017 at the Oaks at NorthPointe Woods. He was born in Battle Creek on May 17, 1935, the loving son of Ora and Margaret (Tennyson) Smith and graduated from Battle Creek Central High School with the Class of 1954.

Clint worked at the LW Robinson Department Store while in high school. He then went to work for the Battle Creek Fire Department in 1958, where he retired in 1983 after more than 25 years of faithful service. He also did lawn mowing, leaf raking and window washing part-time, owned a home heating fuel route, and helped run the concessions at Bailey Park, Post Park, and Willard Beach.

Clint married the "Love of His Life", Barbara M. Pettibone at the First Presbyterian Church in Battle Creek on June 4, 1955; she survives. He is also survived by his children, Terry L. (JoEllen) Smith of Owosso, Linda K. (Roger) Bays of Ceresco, Mark A. Smith of Battle Creek, Kenneth M. (Lori) Smith of Ceresco, and Larry B. (Carrie) Smith of Battle Creek; two brothers, Terry O. Smith of Battle Creek, and Marshall (Barb) Smith of Marshall; nine grandchildren, and several great-grandchildren, nieces & nephews. Clint was sadly preceded in death by a granddaughter, Michelle Bays; his parents; a sister, Leora Cavinder; and a sister-in-law, Bessie Mae Smith.

Clint always enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, leather working, traveling, camping, being outdoors, and attending all of his grandkids activities. He also enjoyed square and round dancing and was a member of the Wagon Wheels and the Melody Square & Round Dance Clubs. Clint attended the First Presbyterian Church, Battle Creek, and was also a member of the Metropolitan Police and Fire Department Club, and a member of the Bailey Park "Wall of Fame".

The family will receive friends 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Monday, August 7th at Farley Estes Dowdle Funeral Home & Cremation Care where funeral services to celebrate Clint's life will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, August 8th. Interment will follow at 2:00 p.m. at Hicks Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please consider making donations to the First Presbyterian Church, Battle Creek or the Alzheimer's Association.
