Deloris E. "Cookie" Catherman, age 98, of Battle Creek passed away peacefully on Saturday morning, April 20, 2019. She was born in Joplin, Missouri on December 6, 1920, the daughter of Frank and Myrtle (Daily) Cook. Deloris graduated from the School of Nursing at St. John's Hospital in Joplin and then faithfully served her country as a Lieutenant in the United States Navy Nurse Corps. During that time she met and cared for her future husband, SSgt. Paul N. Catherman, Jr., USMC. After being discharged from the Navy, Deloris worked as a Registered Nurse at St. Vincent's Hospital in Indianapolis, Indiana and then came to serve at Marshall Manor, until her retirement in 1984.

Deloris married Paul N. Catherman, Jr. in Athens, Georgia on August 23, 1944; he sadly preceded her in death on March 4, 2001. She is survived by her two daughters, Jane Arnett of Indianapolis and Paula (James) Hall of Battle Creek; four grandchildren, Christopher (Megan) Hall, Jennifer (Nick) Burke, Michael Arnett, Lauren (Chris) Ballard, and eight great-grandchildren.

Deloris was member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Battle Creek, the Marshall Country Club and the Seven Lakes Country Club in West End, North Carolina. She was an avid oil painter, and enjoyed golfing and playing bridge. Deloris and Paul loved entertaining their friends, and she truly loved spending time her grandchildren & great-grandchildren.

A private family service with full military honors was held at the Fort Custer National Cemetery. Please consider making donations to St. Joseph Catholic Church.
