Love Emblem

Our loving mother, Diana Ruth "Diane" (Avramoff) Caswell, 81, a lifelong Battle Creek resident died unexpectedly at home on Thursday, October 21, 2021. Diane was born April 13, 1940 in Battle Creek, Michigan the daughter of Avram Elia "Al" Avramoff.

She was raised by her loving father in a very old-fashioned way, as Al was an immigrant from Greece. She would proudly and regularly share stories of her childhood growing up, as her father established his diner named "Al's Café" and "Diana's Lunch". Diane graduated from Battle Creek Central High School in 1957. She was a devoted and loving wife, mother, sister, and grandmother who provided a loving atmosphere and home to grow up in. She was an avid community volunteer that loved children, family, and friends.

Surviving are two sons, Jerry Joseph (Michelle) Caswell of Lake Las Vegas, Henderson, NV, Scott Andrew Caswell of Battle Creek; three daughters, Angela (Greg) Britt Caswell-LaPierre, Sherrie Rae Masters, and Christy Ann Caswell all of Battle Creek; five grandchildren, Amber (Colby) Votava, Erika (Paul Brown) Rouch, Cameron Caswell, Connor Caswell, Jace Masters; three great-grandchildren, Cassie Votava, Callie Votava, Chase Boitnott; and a sister, Tanya Babic of Bristol, IL. Diane was preceded in death by her father, Albert; sister, Donna Wiley and two brothers-in-law, Richard Babic and Kenneth Wiley.

Diane loved her family more than life and was proud of what each of her children achieved. She would move mountains for her children ensuring every need was fulfilled. She was so pleased that her father Al, our grandpa, was a big part of our lives in growing up with lasting and cherished memories of those '5 melted Hershey bars' and '$2 bills in grandpas' pocket' after coming home from playing cards at the club with his friends from the old country. Her proudest moment as a mother was when she was able to donate her kidney to one of her son's 23 years ago, an action that none of us will ever forget.

She was known growing up to her kids and many others as the floor-hockey mom and the lady behind the concession stands for the very early start of the floor-hockey program for what is now known as the Wattles Park Men's Club Athletic Youth Group. She was a mom that would attend all her kids and grandkids athletic sports events and would cheer the other kids on even if she didn't know them. She was also known in the later years as that 'errand mom' for her children as she loved to drive around and shop for whatever she thought her kids or grandkids might need; or not and was the best babysitter her grandchildren could ever have – they love her.

Diane was also a very active member in the community. She loved helping children and staff in the classroom and was very active as a "motor mom" at Beadle Lake Elementary as she loved reading to children and playing with the kids in the classroom. She could be spotted in her pink blazer volunteering at the hospital thrift shop, the Tiger Room at St. Philip, the Burnham Brook Center, the Moose Lodge, the Harper Creek Optimist Club helping with the Beaver Boosters, and many other activities.

She will be remembered as a mother that never quit and lived her life for and through her children and grandchildren every single day. Her beautiful life will be forever cherished in the lives of her children and grandchildren and everyone she touched.

At the request of the family, friends will be received 5:00-7:00 p.m. Thursday at Farley Estes Dowdle Funeral Home & Cremation Care, where the Rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. October 28, 2021. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. David Pinto at St. Philip Roman Catholic Church 10:30 a.m. Friday, October 29, 2021.

Inurnment and committal will be held later at Memorial Park Cemetery. Personal messages for the family may be placed above at "Sign Memory Book".
