Donald David Carl, Sr. of Battle Creek, MI

Don, age 73, died Wednesday evening, March 21, 2018 with his loving family at his side.

Don, the son of Thomas L. and Pauline M. (Morrison) Carl, was born in Battle Creek on Nov. 5, 1944; was a lifetime area resident and a 1963 graduate of Pennfield High School. Don worked briefly at Leila Hospital as an orderly and also volunteered at Emmett Rescue Squad. Later, he was employed at Eaton's. Don hired in at the Kellogg Company in 1965 and also drove bus for Pennfield Schools while volunteering for the Pennfield Fire Dept. He retired in 2007 after 42 wonderful years at Kellogg's and was a member of the 25 Year Club. Don loved to hunt and fish with family and friends. A generous man, Don enjoyed helping others, especially baking and donating cakes for a St. Jude's fundraiser every year.

Surviving are his two sons, Donald D. "Dave" (Jennifer) Carl, Jr. of Nashville, MI and Todd L. (Brenda) Carl of Battle Creek; three precious grandchildren, Brian (Sarah) Pesonen, Zachary Carl and Rian Carl; two great grandchildren, Bryce and Elijah Pesonen; his sister, Dianne Tanner of Battle Creek; three brothers, Jim (Nancy) Carl of Nashville, MI, Dick (Brenda) Carl of Kalamazoo, MI and Rod (Pat) Carl of Battle Creek; sisters-in-law, Darlene Carl and Dolly Carl; and many nieces and nephews. Don was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Thomas and William Carl; and brother-in-law, Jim Tanner.

Don's family will greet friends on Monday, March 26th from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Farley Estes Dowdle Funeral Home & Cremation Care, Battle Creek. The Funeral Service to celebrate Don's life will be held on Tuesday, March 27th at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Kelly C. Hadlich, of Battle Creek, officiating. Interment will follow at Floral Lawn Memorial Gardens, Battle Creek. Family and friends will continue Don's life celebration immediately following the interment with a time of fellowship and a luncheon at the Robin's Nest, 16181 10 Mile Road, Battle Creek, MI 49014.
