Duane R. Moran, age 76, of Climax, MI, formerly of Augusta and Lawrence, MI, died Sunday, April 14, 2013 following a lengthy battle with heart disease. Duane, the son of Duane D. and Cline (Frye) Moran,
was born on April 2, 1937 in Kalamazoo, MI and was lifetime area resident. He was a 1955 graduate of the W.K. Kellogg Agricultural School (Gull Lake School System) and attended Alma College and Western Michigan University. Duane retired in 1992 after 41 years of faithful service as the Grounds Maintenance Supervisor at the Brook Lodge, The Upjohn Co. of Augusta. He and Janet were dedicated serving members of the Lawrence Lions Club. Duane and Janet enjoyed traveling and were charter members of the On the Road Again Camping Club; he was renowned for his gardening expertise and he loved playing a round of golf with family members or his buddies.

He had been a Special Marine Deputy on Gull Lake and was an active member of the Gull Lake Area Ambulance Service for over 35 years. On February 22, 1968 in Battle Creek, MI, Duane was united in marriage to the former Janet M. Allen, who preceded him in death on July 29, 2012. Surviving are two daughters, Kelly A. (Gary) Majewski of Vicksburg, MI and Valerie M. McCabe of Phoenix, AZ; his two sons, Jeffery S. Moran of Climax and Eric H. (Carla) Moran of Richland, MI; six grandchildren; two great grandchildren, his brother, Michael (Martha) Moran of Burlington, MI. and uncle, Alvis Frye of Climax, Mi. Duane was preceded in death by his parents and grandson, Landyn Hendricks.

A Memorial Service to celebrate Duane's life will be held on Saturday, April 20th at 1:00 p.m. at the Farley-Estes & Dowdle Funeral Home, Augusta Chapel, 307 N. Webster Street with Rev. Peter Jenkins, Youth Pastor of Gracespring Bible Church, officiating. Friends will be received from Noon until service time at the funeral home. A time of fellowship and a luncheon to continue Duane's life celebration will immediately follow the service at the Augusta VFW Post #7956,13540 M-96 West.
