Ellen Norine Jones of Battle Creek, MI

Ellen, age 100, died at Upjohn Heritage of Kalamazoo, MI on Saturday afternoon, August 18, 2018.

Ellen, the daughter of Frank E. and Ellen E. (Webber) Baker, was born on July 15, 1918, in London, Ontario, Canada and emigrated to Battle Creek at the age of 2. She was raised in Battle Creek; was a 1937 graduate from Battle Creek Central High School and graduated from the Sherwood School of Music in Chicago, IL. Ellen resided in Augusta from 1978 to 1998, but lived most of her life in Battle Creek. She taught private music lessons for over 25 years in Battle Creek and Pennfield, until moving to Belleville, MI. Upon returning to Battle Creek, Ellen was employed as an executive secretary at Cereal City Wire Products. She was a member of St. Thomas Episcopal Church of Battle Creek since age 2 ½ and a member of its St. Anne's Circle and the Church Reception Committee; a former member of the Morning Musical Society and the Battle Creek Music Teachers Association.

Ellen was united in marriage to Lyndon Ross Jones on February 15, 1941 in Battle Creek and he sadly preceded her in death July 3, 1991. Surviving are two sons, Lynn R. Jones of Fruitland Park, FL and Steven F. (Sandra) Jones of Melbourne, FL; three granddaughters, Michelle (Chris) Davis, Lani Jones and Lori Jones; two great-grandsons, Connor Davis and Nathen Davis and a brother, Carl A. (Betty) Baker of Terrell, TX. Ellen was also preceded her in death her parents; two sisters, Madeline French and Winnifred Todoroff and three brothers, Charles E. "Bud" Baker, Frank E. Baker and Albert E. Baker.

Ellen's family will greet friends on Friday, August 24th from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Farley Estes Dowdle Funeral Home & Cremation Care, Battle Creek. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, August 25th at 11:000 a.m. at St. Thomas Episcopal Church, 16 East Van Buren Street with the Rev. Brian Coleman, Rector as Celebrant. Interment will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery, Battle Creek. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Ellen's honor may be directed to St. Thomas Episcopal Church.
