Frances Jane (Robinson) Shull Brevitz, 93, of Battle Creek died peacefully on Sunday, January 2, 2022.

Frances (or Franny as she was affectionately known) was born on May 28, 1928, in Battle Creek to Grover and Mabel (Haight) Robinson. She was one of seven children and was a 1946 graduate of Battle Creek Central High School. Following high school, Franny continued her education by earning an Associate Degree from Western Michigan University. For many years, she was employed as a Medical Office Assistant at an ophthalmology practice in Grand Rapids, Michigan, where her impeccable skills working with people were on full display. Franny could talk to anyone, and everyone loved talking to her!

On September 10, 1949, Franny was united in marriage to Chalmer "Jay" Shull in Battle Creek, Michigan. Theirs was a marriage of 48 years, which included several wonderful years living in Vermont and in Germany while Jay was in the Air Force. Following this, they returned to Michigan where they made their home and raised their family in East Grand Rapids. Their vacation home on Bear Lake in northern Michigan was visited often, and many summers and weekends there were treasured memories. Jay preceded her in death on March 1, 1998.

Three years later, on May 12, 2001, Franny married R. Bruce Brevitz in Battle Creek. They were married for 20 years - a marriage that included extensive travel with their favorite places being European destinations, Navarre Beach, Florida and their beloved cabin near Kalkaska Michigan.

Surviving are her husband Bruce, two sons, Jeffrey B. (Sally) Shull of Ada, and John C. (Melinda) Shull of Grand Rapids, three step-daughters, Deborah E (Gary) Priestap of Milford, Susan L. (Donald) Beck of Castle Rock Colorado, and Rebecca A. (Jerome) Corr of DeWitt, a step-son, R. Bruce (Linda) Brevitz of Stillwater Minnesota, six grandchildren and ten step-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband Jay, Franny was preceded in death by her son, Randall Jay, her parents, Grover and Mabel, her four sisters (Maxine, Hazel, Jean and June) and her two brothers (Maxwell and Donald).

Franny had a life that was centered around her large extended family. She took particular pride in her sons and all of their accomplishments. There was nothing she would rather do than be with those that she loved and all those who loved her. Franny was involved in the Grand Rapids Junior League, the Priscilla Circle at Mayflower Church and volunteered teaching art appreciation in the Grand Rapids area public elementary schools.

A celebration of Franny's life will be held at Farley Estes Dowdle Funeral Home & Cremation Care in Battle Creek on Saturday, January 15th at noon, with visitation before the service commencing at 11:00 AM. The service will be livestreamed and may be viewed at: https://vimeo.com/665694878 or you may also view it on the Farley Estes & Dowdle Funeral Home Facebook page.
