Garry Gene Barnes of Battle Creek, MI

Garry, age 68, died peacefully at his residence on Saturday, June 20, 2020.

Garry, the son of Howard and Anne (Horton) Barnes, was born in Olivet, MI on February 23, 1952. Garry had been employed as a brakeman/switchman for the Grand Trunk Railroad; served as a volunteer firefighter and had been the Chief of Police in multiple small communities, most recently Nashville, MI.

Garry was an elite baseball player who passed on a career in the major leagues to start a family. He enjoyed spending time hunting and fishing with his three boys. They have many memories of camping and visiting family together when younger. A favorite adventure was traveling to Canada on many hunting and fishing trips. Garry also adopted a daughter, he was very fond of her and enjoyed the time they had together. All of his family would agree he loved his new puppy, Molly Anne the most!!!

Garry is survived by his three sons, Trevor (Debbie) Barnes of Burlington, MI, Kevin and grandson, Dakota Barnes of Battle Creek and Chad (Michelle) and grandchildren Michalla and Drew Barnes of Ceresco, MI; his daughter, Kaysee Barnes and his brother, Judd Barnes of Battle Creek. Garry was preceded in death by his parents.

As per Garry's wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation or service. The Farley Estes Dowdle Funeral Home & Cremation Care, Battle Creek is assisting Garry's family.
