Gerald D. "Jerry" Wedel, age 81, of Augusta passed away Monday morning, June 19, 2017 at the Evergreen Manor. He was born in Battle Creek on December 27, 1935, the son of John and Imogene (Douglas) Wedel and faithfully served his country as a member of the United States Navy. Jerry retired as a switchman for the Grand Trunk Railroad after more than 31 years of service.

Jerry married the "Love of His Life", Sandra Newton in Augusta on April 19, 1958; she survives. He is also survived by his two daughters, Kathy (Ed) Berg of Iowa and Sherry (Mike) Shirley of Augusta; his grandchildren, Audra Ford, Dan Berg, John Berg, and Fallon Moore of Iowa, and Sarah (Nick) Trayer of Augusta. Jerry was sadly preceded in death by his parents, and a sister, Barbara Herr.

Jerry formerly a member of the VFW. He enjoyed playing poker, going to casinos, and used to enjoy fishing, snowmobiling, and working on stock cars.

Funeral services with full military honors will be held 1:30 p.m., Friday, June 23rd at the Fort Custer National Cemetery in Augusta. In lieu of flowers, please consider making donations to the Battle Creek VA Medical Center (personal care items) or to the American Diabetes Association.
