Gretta L. Kitchen, age 80 of Battle Creek, passed away peacefully at her home, surrounded by her family, on Wednesday morning, May 4, 2022. She was born in Battle Creek on March 6, 1942, the loving daughter of Forrest and Rebekah (Wilkinson) Stamm. Gretta owned & operated her own commercial cleaning business, "GK Cleaning" in the Houghton Lake & Battle Creek areas for more than 40 years and also owned the Shangri-La Resort in Houghton Lake.
Gretta married the "Love of Her Life", Joseph A. "Joe" Kitchen in Battle Creek on August 4, 1968; he survives. She is also survived by her children, Kimberly Wensley, Kelley Lee Kitchen and Jennifer (Jeff Everhart) Abrams; daughter-in-law, Bonnie Kitchen; several grandchildren & great-grandchildren; and her sister, Saundra Thompson. Gretta was preceded in death by two sons, Kurt and Kendall Kitchen; her parents; and two sisters, Gloria L. Scott and Mickey Vaughan.
Gretta actively volunteered and supported the WLRP at the Haven of Rest for many years. She was a member of the American Legion & Family Altar Chapel in Battle Creek and the Houghton Lake, Chamber of Commerce, Eagles & Lioness Club. She enjoyed making silk floral arrangements for the church, weddings and other events. She also enjoyed laughing and spending time with her family & friends.
The family will receive friends 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon Monday, May 9th at the Family Altar Chapel, 14844 6½ Mile Rd, Battle Creek, MI 49014 where a memorial service to celebrate her life will be held at 12:00 noon.
