James A. "Jim" Wanner, age 90, of Battle Creek and formerly of Livonia, Michigan passed away peacefully at Reflections Memory Care on Friday evening, April 3, 2020. He was born in La Crosse, Wisconsin on October 30, 1929, the loving son of Arthur J. and Ida L. (Wuensch) Wanner. Jim graduated from La Crosse Aquinas Catholic High School with the Class of 1947. While at La Crosse Aquinas High, Jim excelled in football, basketball, baseball and boxing, receiving 11 Varsity Letters and is featured on the Aquinas High School "Sports Wall of Fame". He furthered his education at St. Mary's University of Minnesota. Jim retired from the Chrysler Corporation in 1992 after more than 30 years of service. He had previously worked at Bager Northland in Wisconsin.

Jim married the "Love of His Life", Mary "LaVonne" Bakalars in La Crosse on August 20, 1949; she sadly preceded him in death on August 12, 2019. He was also preceded in death by his parents and four sisters, Edith, Jayne, Maryanne and Elizabeth. Jim is survived by his children, Timothy "Tim" (Kathy) Wanner of Battle Creek and Julie (Craig) Rickle of Livonia; eight grandchildren, Brian (Becca) Wanner, Jason Zeppa, Rebecca Sheren, Sara (Ryan) Jaime, Josh Rickle, Elizabeth (Ryan) Mikulich, James (Juliana) Rickle, and Thomas Wanner; four great-grandchildren, Alexis Jaime, Emma Jaime, KloƩ Rickle, Ambrose Mikulich; and his sister, Rosalie Schelble.

Family was always very important to Jim and he was very involved in his children's events/teams, and was always known to sing "I see the Moon" to his children and grandchildren when they were younger, and Jim & LaVonne also took the grandchildren on several vacations over the years. Jim truly enjoyed the outdoors, planting flowers so his yard was always so beautiful, yardwork, and watching birds & other wildlife. He also enjoyed watching sports, particularly Detroit Sports teams and in the earlier years cheered for the Green Bay Packers. Jim also listened to Oldies and Country Music and had also recently enjoyed doing jigsaw puzzles.

Jim had been very active at St. Collette Catholic Church in Livonia. He was also a member of the Men's Association at St. Collette's, the Chrysler Retiree Association, and was a founding member & past-president of the Fairway Farms Swim Club.

A memorial gathering to celebrate Jim's life will be held later in the year when it is safe to gather again. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made the Alzheimer's Association and or La Crosse Aquinas High. Arrangements by Farley Estes Dowdle Funeral Home & Cremation Care, Battle Creek.
