John Tedrow, Jr., 95, a lifelong Battle Creek resident died peacefully on Friday, October 23, 2020 at Brookdale Memory Care.

John was born January 5, 1925 in Battle Creek, Michigan the son of John and Mary Ellen (Thoms) Tedrow, Sr. he attended Battle Creek Central High School. He then honorably served our country in the U.S. Army from March of 1943 until December of 1945. He served in the European Theatre of operations and received numerous ribbons and metals, including five Bronze Stars. He retired from Consumer's Power Company in 1985, after 40 years, 20 years as a lineman and 20 years as a supervisor.

John Tedrow, Jr. was united in marriage to Velma Jean Parkinson on September 22, 1946 in Battle Creek. John was preceded in death by his wife, Jean on September 30, 2012. Surviving are a daughter, Pamela Ann (Robert) Dukeman of Battle Creek; a son, Larry Michael (Cuc) Tedrow of Melbourne, FL; four grandchildren, Kim (Chad) Sutherland, Scott (Kristin) Dukeman, Hon (Chuck) Franklin, Leah Tedrow; seven great-grandchildren, Jenna (Zack) Burgess, Jake (Tracy) Rossetti, Brianna (Mike) Dukeman, Hayden and McKenna Dukeman, Gage Sutherland, Hannah Didier, Logan Didier; two great great-grandsons, Spencer Miller, Axtyn Burgess; and several cousins, nieces, nephews and their families. In addition to his wife, John was also preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Katherine Dean, a brother, Kenneth Tedrow, Sr. and a great-grandson, Dean Boles.

John was an avid golfer and was formerly a member of Bedford Valley Country Club, Marywood Country Club and the Battle Creek Area Seniors Golf Association. John was a wonderful dancer and enjoyed his time on the dance floor. He also enjoyed working on computers and country music. John had been a member of General George A. Custer American Legion Post #54 and Eagle Lodge #299. John will be remembered as hardworking, kindhearted, an all-around good person who was always willing to help and would do anything for his family and friends.

Military honors by Fort Custer Honor Guard and the U.S. Army Honor Guard and committal prayers by Pastor Scott Anderson will be held 11:30 a.m. Monday, November 2, 2020 at Fort Custer National Cemetery. Wearing masks properly and social distancing will be required. John's family would like to sincerely thank the staff of Brookdale Memory Care for the attention and loving care that they showered upon John during his stay at Brookdale. Their efforts on John's behalf greatly enhanced his life in his final years.
