Love Emblem

Louella McCowey, 81, of Battle Creek passed away at her home on February 28, 2017.

"Lou", as she was known to everyone and to her family "Tootsie" was born June 5, 1935 in Bendon, MI, the daughter of William and Maude (Shipley) McCarry. Lou graduated from Traverse City Central High School and moved to Battle Creek shortly thereafter.

In Battle Creek, Lou met John McCowey and you know the rest of that story. Lou with her exuberant personality, was a perfect match for her occupation in retail and she thoroughly enjoyed meeting and being of service to her customers. With Lou's generosity of heart she and John volunteered for many years, at the Food Bank of South Central Michigan. Lou also was a volunteer, during multiple elections at the local Precinct in Pennfield Ml. Lou and John enjoyed their many trips around the U.S.A. and especially enjoyed visiting covered bridges, wherever they could be found.

Lou is survived by brothers, James, Robert (June); a sister, Galetta (Richard) and by numerous nephews and nieces and their families. She was proceeded in death by her parents; and two brothers, Stephen and Earl.

A memorial gathering will be held for Lou and John 1:00 - 3:00 p.m. Saturday, June 23th at Farley Estes Dowdle Funeral Home & Cremation Care.
