Martha Frances "Nan" Graves, age 89, of Battle Creek passed away peacefully on Sunday morning, January 26, 2020. She was born in Chattanooga, Tennessee on January 11, 1931, the oldest child of Charles and Mary Ruth (Pettyjohn) Hayes.

Martha is survived by her grandchildren, Anthony (Melissa) Newman, Sally (Ken) MacPhee and Stacy (Mike) Lightfoot, all of Battle Creek; her great-grandchildren, Alex & Ethan Newman, Gracie & Grant MacPhee, and Brady, Brogan, Josh and Taylor Lightfoot; her brothers & sisters, Carl, Jon, Don, J.T., Jerry, Tom, Sue, Sheila and JoAnn; and several nieces & nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald D. Graves; her daughter & son-in-law, Janet & Jim Newman; her parents, Charles & Mary; and her brothers & sisters, Sonny, Ruth, Faye, Eddie, Michael and Dorothy.

Family was everything to Martha and she especially loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and watching her nieces & nephews and great-nieces & nephews. She was an amazing cook, and also enjoyed cross-word puzzles (she always had one in her hand or nearby), and watching baseball, especially the Tigers, Cubs and Braves.

A private family memorial service will be held at Fort Custer National Cemetery where she will be interred by her beloved husband, Donald. Arrangements by Farley Estes Dowdle Funeral Home & Cremation Care, Battle Creek. Personal messages for the family may be placed at www.farleyestesdowdle.com.
