Mary Margaret Scott, 93, of Battle Creek died peacefully with her family at her side on Sunday, December 3, 2017 at The Oaks at NorthPointe Woods.

Margaret was born November 5, 1924 in Iron Mountain, Michigan to George William and Eunice (Selby) Chambers. She grew up in Lansing, Michigan and was a 1942 graduate of Lansing Central High School. Margaret attended Michigan State University in Home Economics, then joined the U.S. Navy and served in the WAVES during WWII in Washington, D.C. After honorably serving her country in the Navy, she returned to MSU to continue her education and met her future husband, William J. "Bill" Scott at "Monty's Bar" during a fraternity house blind date. Bill and Margaret were married on October 11, 1947 in Lansing. They moved to Battle Creek shortly after their marriage where they raised two daughters. Margaret worked for 35 years as a claims examiner at Transamerica Insurance Company.

An avid bridge player into her nineties, Margaret enjoyed the many friends she met in bridge groups over the years. She cheered on her Michigan State Spartan teams faithfully each week, attending a green and white Rose Bowl win in Pasadena in 1988. Margaret enjoyed reading, crossword and jigsaw puzzles, sewing and gardening. She loved dogs, Broadway musicals and concerts, golf, and travel throughout the United States and Europe. "Grandma" was adored by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and enjoyed attending their sporting events, playing cards and board games with them, and spending family time at Lake Michigan. She never had to be asked twice to join them for shared favorites pizza and ice cream. Everyone knew that they could count on Grandma for a ready laugh or a witty comeback. The entire family celebrated her 90th birthday in Las Vegas where she lived for a few years before moving to NorthPointe Woods.

Margaret was preceded in death by her husband, Bill on March 1, 2003, her parents, and her brother, George William Chambers, Jr. Surviving are her two daughters, Susan (Nick) Pitsch of Stephens City, Virginia, Jane Newton of Las Vegas, Nevada; granddaughter, Shaina (Dan) Klinglesmith; grandsons, Ryan (Lida) Pitsch, Jason Pitsch, Dustin (Rachael) Pitsch, Andrew (Shari) Newton, Travis (Sarah) Newton and nine great-grandchildren.

A memorial service with military honors for Margaret will be held 12:00 noon, June 19, 2018, at Ft. Custer National Cemetery. Arrangements are by Farley Estes Dowdle Funeral Home & Cremation Care. Personal messages for the family may be placed here at
