Army Emblem

Michael Lee Lind, 66, passed away peacefully sleeping in his chair watching his favorite westerns on May 1, 2019. He was born July 22, 1952 in Battle Creek to Grant Collins Gregoire and Leona Joyce Gregoire. He and his brother, Grant, were later adopted by Howard Lind.

He attended Lakeview and Battle Creek Public Schools. He graduated from Western Michigan University with a Bachelor Degree in Criminal Justice and Sociology. Later, he earned his Juris Doctorate Degree from Thomas M. Cooley Law School.

He was a proud veteran of the United States Army and served in the Vietnam War from 1970-1971. Following his service in the Army he began his education and career to achieve his dream of being a police officer. He graduated from the Kalamazoo Valley Community College Police Academy and began his work in Public Service as a police officer with Pennfield Township and later with the Battle Creek Police Department. He continued to work with BCPD while attending Thomas M. Cooley Law School to achieve another life dream of becoming an attorney. He was employed by the Calhoun County Prosecutors office before starting his own law practice. As an attorney, he had a sincere passion for helping others with many cases and services done Pro Bono. He and his wife formerly owned and operated Dee's Northside Amoco and Towing for 11 years.

His years of employment were a topic of many family conversations. From working at his grandmother's restaurant at a very young age, to working at a mink farm. He had a strong work ethic that continued until his final days.

He devoted his life to serving the community and served on several boards and committees throughout the years including the Pennfield School Board of Education and Calhoun County Medical Center Facility Board of Directors. He was recognized and honored with multiple awards for his community service.

He lived a life full of excitement and adventure. He was a Scuba instructor, skydiver, pilot, cyclist, expert marksman, teacher, and volunteer. He loved Harley Davidson motorcycles and Corvettes, and owned many throughout his life. He loved to end the day watching classic westerns like Gunsmoke and Bonanza, or tales of pirates at sea.

He married the absolute love of his life, Dee, on April 19th, 1980 and they enjoyed 39 wonderful years together. They had two beautiful children, Michael II and Morgan, which were his most treasured gifts in his life. He was devoted, hard working and loving to his family which was evident as he proudly talked about his wife and children every day. The family enjoyed many trips to Disney World and theme parks, and were looking forward to a family trip to Italy in August.

He is survived by his wife Dee Lind, children Michael Lind II and Morgan Lind, brothers Grant (Lori) Lind and John Lind and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his mother Leona Thompson, and grandmother Mildred Culp.
