Michael Ray "Mike" Clayborn of Marshall, MI

Mike Clayborn, age 72, died Monday afternoon, July 8, 2019, at Oaklawn Hospital in Marshall following a brief illness.

Mike was born in Marshall on February 18, 1947, to William and Georgia (Olds) Clayborn. He was a lifetime resident of Marshall and a 1965 graduate of Marshall High School. Mike was united in marriage to the former Dawn L. Tappan in Marshall, May 25, 1972. Together they created, owned, and operated Clayborn & Sons Excavating of Marshall for over 45 years.

Mike was a member of the Marshall Moose Lodge # 676 and the Calhoun County Mounted Division. He and Dawn were members of Trinity Episcopal Church in Marshall. Mike was known for playing hard, but not until the work was done. He greatly enjoyed time spent at the cabin in the Upper Peninsula since his early childhood. He also enjoyed many years of long weekends in Luther, Michigan. He and Dawn loved to ride snowmobiles and took many trips on their motorcycles around the country.

He is survived by his wife, Dawn, as well as two daughters, Tina (Brian) Malinowski of Battle Creek, and Heidi (Anthony) Kalisz of Marshall; two sons, Todd Clutter of Battle Creek and Bryan Clutter of Marshall; seven grandchildren, Michael and Jake Adams, Vance, Carmen and Macy O'Dell, and Dennis and Stewart Clutter. Mike is also survived by three brothers, William (Gloria) Clayborn of Marshall, George (Skip) Clayborn of Mesquite, Nevada, and Richard (Katie) Clayborn of Eustis, Florida. Mike was preceded in death by his parents.

The service to celebrate Mike's life will be held on Saturday, July 13th at 11:00 a.m. at Trinity Episcopal Church, 101 E. Mansion Street in Marshall. His family will greet friends at the church on Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until service time. Interment will follow at Oakridge Cemetery, Marshall. Family and friends will continue Mike's life celebration with a time of fellowship and a luncheon at the Marshall Moose Lodge # 676 immediately following the committal. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Mike's honor may be directed to the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
