Stained Glass Emblem

Nancy Jeanne (Stults) Davis, age 75, of Battle Creek, passed away on Thursday March 4, 2021. She was born in Battle Creek, Michigan on August 17, 1945, the daughter of Loren and Jeannetta (Nimmo) Stults. Nancy graduated from Lakeview High School with the class of 1963 and received a bachelor's degree from Western Michigan University before starting her teaching career in Baldwin, Michigan where she and Jim lived while Jim finished his degree at Ferris.

Nancy married Jim Davis at the First United Methodist Church in Battle Creek; he sadly preceded her in death on May 3, 2015. She is survived by her three children, Elizabeth (Matt) Mahlstedt of Waterloo, Iowa, Julie (Garth Ryan) Davis of Kalamazoo and Tim (Melanie) Davis of Battle Creek; four grandchildren, Mason Stilwell, Micheal Johnson, Claire Davis and Elspeth Ryan 'and one great-granddaughter, Maddyson Johnson; her brothers, David Stults and Brian (Jackie) Stults; and several, much loved, nieces, nephews and cousins. She touched many lives as an early elementary reading teacher at Riverside Elementary in Battle Creek before retiring to spend time with her new granddaughter in 2008.

In addition to teaching, Nancy spent many years as a child care provider. She was also a girl scout and cub scout troop leader, a room mother and an active PTA member. She participated in several booster groups at Lakeview schools and was a band camp chaperone for several years. Nancy was a life-long member of First United Methodist Church in Battle Creek and was very active on various church councils and organizations throughout her life. For several years, she was also a church organist. Her first job was as a mother and she spent much of her life caring for her children.

Nancy's favorite pastime was to spend time with family including her grandkids, nieces and nephews. She never missed a performance or sporting event that her children or grandchildren participated in. As an avid reader, Nancy created a large collection of children's books that she loved to share with her grandchildren. She also enjoyed knitting, sewing (she sewed hundreds of masks in the past year), traveling with her family and spending as much time as possible with her grandchildren.

After a two year battle with lymphoma and a four month battle with COVID, Nancy passed away peacefully at Bronson Methodist Hospital with family by her side. Her friends and family know how fiercely and bravely she battled these illnesses and will forever remember her for her generous and determined spirit.

Due to current Covid restrictions, a family memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 20th. The service will be livestreamed and may be viewed at https://vimeo.com/521023287. A larger celebration of Nancy's life will be held later in the year when it is safe for family and friends to gather. In lieu of flowers, please consider making donations to the First United Methodist Church, the Cancer Care Center at Bronson Battle Creek Medical Oncology Fund, or the Lakeview Schools Education Fund. Arrangements by Farley Estes Dowdle Funeral home & Cremation Care, Battle Creek.
