Shirley Jean Broughton Obituary

Shirley Jean Broughton, age 82, of Battle Creek passed away Wednesday evening, February 23, 2022. She was born in Athens, Michigan on June 16, 1939, the daughter of Glenn A. and Ethel N. (Deal) Bigelow and graduated from Athens High School with the Class of 1958. She loved animals and liked reading murder mystery books and going to church at the Potter's House Church.

Shirley married June Nixon "Nick" Broughton in 1965; he preceded her in death in 1984. She was also preceded in death by her son, James T. Peterson, Jr.; her parents; a sister, Morita E. "Rita" Smith; and a brother, Keith (Jean) Bigelow. Shirley is survived by her grandchildren, Miranda (Santino) Guile and Tyler (Jessica) Peterson, both of Battle Creek; a great-grandson, Tyler Peterson Jr.; and her special care givers of more than 25 years, Linda and Amy Bates.

Funeral services to celebrate Shirley's life will be held 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, March 2, 2022 in the chapel at Memorial Park Cemetery.
