Stewart Ryan "Mickey" Lowe, 88, a lifelong Battle Creek resident died peacefully at his residence at NorthPointe Woods, with his family at his side, on Friday, January 26, 2018.

Mickey was born June 10, 1929 in Battle Creek the son of Dr. Stanley Tilton and Berenice (Jones) Lowe. He was a 1947 graduate of Lakeview High School. In 1947 he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served two years. After his discharge Mickey attended Ferris State College and worked as an equipment manager in the football program. In the middle of his sophomore year Mickey returned home and worked for the Battle Creek Township Fire Department for one year. Mickey then enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and served four years, mostly as a structural fire fighter. He was stationed at Niagara Falls, New York, and then deployed to Korea. After he returned to Michigan he met Katherine Marie "Kathie" Ricken from Mt. Clemens and they were married on January 8. 1955. Mickey earned his Associates Degree in Firefighting from Kellogg Community College. He was employed for the Battle Creek Fire Department for thirty years. In 1986 he retired as a lieutenant at Number 5 Fire Station in Urbandale. He then worked for Johnston Township Fire Department 1987-2001.

Mickey was preceded in death by his daughter, Janet on July 8, 1974; wife, Kathie on May 2, 2013 and a sister, Marjorie Newquist in 1984. Surviving are his son, Michael Ryan (Cheri L.) Lowe of Battle Creek; grandchildren, Sara E. Lowe of Atlanta, Georgia, Ryan J. Lowe of Battle Creek, his sister, Sharon (Deland "De") Davis of Battle Creek and several cousins, nieces and nephews and their families

Mickey loved traveling, cruising, and spending the winter months in Florida with Kathie. He volunteered on the maintenance crew at Ft. Custer National Cemetery. Mickey knew the history of Battle Creek families and the neighborhoods. He enjoyed attending his grandchildren's sporting events and will be remembered as an affectionate grandfather.

Per Mickey's wishes, a private family service will be held at Memorial Park Cemetery.
