Gordon Duane "Gordy" Eldred of Battle Creek, MI

Gordy, age 80, died Saturday evening, January 21, 2017 after a brief illness.

Gordy, the son of Harold Donald and Ruby Ellen (Scamp) Eldred, was born in Battle Creek on March 21, 1936; was a lifetime area resident and was a 1955 graduate of Battle Creek Central High School. He was a steam fitter-welder for Kellogg Company for 38 ½ years of faithful service, retiring in 1994 and was a member of its 25 Year Club. Gordy had worked with the Boy Scouts and was a 4-H leader. He raced go-karts for years at area fairs and around this area. He always had horses and family and neighbors enjoyed their use. Gordy and his pals made trailers and everyone shared the excellent results. Gordy and Nancy traveled all over the United States and wintered in Punta Gorda, FL, where he did the "Neighborhood Watch" at the park.

Gordy was united in marriage to the former Nancy J. Henning in Battle Creek on March 10, 1956. Surviving is his wife of 60+ years, Nancy; two sons, Denis Jon (Patti) Eldred of Battles Creek and Martin Dean (Susan) Eldred of Marcellus, MI; three precious grandchildren, Harold Duane Eldred, Debra Lynnette (Chris) Kimmel and Nicholas Ryan (Jesse) Eldred; two great grandchildren, Christopher Kimmel and Owen G. Eldred and his sister, Marjorie Haan of Battle Creek. Gordy was preceded in death by his parents, brother and sister-in-law Danny (June) Eldred and his daughter, Diana Lynn Eldred.

The Funeral Service to celebrate Gordy's life will be held on Wednesday, January 25th at 11:00 a.m. at the Farley Estes Dowdle Funeral Home & Cremation Care, Battle Creek, with Rev. John Adams, Pastor of Grace Fellowship Baptist Church, officiating. Gordy's family will greet friends from 10:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.
