Walt, age 79, went to be with the Lord Thursday afternoon, June 28, 2018 at Calhoun County Medical Care Facility, Battle Creek, MI.

Walt, the son of Melvin D. and Audrey Rose (Newby) Morgan, was born in Dayton, TN on September 8, 1938; moved to the Battle Creek area in 1951 and attended Springfield High School. Walt retired from United Steel & Wire Co. in 2004 for after more than 38 years faithful service as a machine operator. Walt is a member of the Fort Custer Christian Assembly Church and was a former member and board member of the First Church of the Nazarene of Battle Creek, where he drove the church bus for many years to bring children and adults to church. He was an extremely gifted musician playing the guitar, mandolin, violin and banjo all by ear, having never had a music lesson! Walt was a member of numerous bands including Southern Boys Band (with his son, Randy) and Mountain Top (with his brother, Jim) to name a few. Walt's true joy was spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Walt married the "Love of his Life," the former Alice M. Johnson in Battle Creek on February 14, 1959 and she sadly preceded him in death on May 18, 2017. He was also preceded in death by his parents and his brothers, James, Ernest "Ernie" and Jesse Morgan. Walter is survived by his children, Dave (Debbie) Morgan, Sandy (Frank) Davis, Randy (Ingrid) Morgan, and Bill Morgan; nine grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Sharon Morgan, Maxine Morgan, Linda Morgan, and Donna Morgan and brother-in-law, Dick (Jo) Johnson.

Walt's family will greet friends on Monday, July 2nd from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Farley Estes Dowdle Funeral Home & Cremation Care, Battle Creek. The Funeral Service to celebrate Walt's life will be held on Tuesday, July 3rd at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Robert G. Muirhead, officiating.
